Star and producer of the “Deadpool” movies Ryan Reynolds is suggesting that a crossover movie with “Guardians of the Galaxy” could be on the cards.

Sarcastic antihero Deadpool could be finding his way into the Marvel Cinematic Universe via a team-up with the Guardians of the Galaxy.

That’s according to a social media exchange between Ryan Reynolds, lead actor and part of the production team on the “Deadpool” movies, and James Gunn, writer and director of both “Guardians of the Galaxy” films.

“Yesterday I finally saw [‘Deadpool 2’] which I loved,” Gunn commented in a May 27 post to his Twitter account.

“Thank you James! Crossover?” Reynolds asked, with Gunn replying, “Yes, please.”

With mid-May’s “Deadpool 2” on the verge of passing $500 million worldwide, Reynolds already has two more “Deadpool” movies on the go, with antihero ensemble “X-Force” to arrive before “Deadpool 3”.

Gunn is writing and directing “Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3” for release in 2020.

While Marvel Comics and its Marvel Studios film division are owned by the Walt Disney Company, the Deadpool and X-Force movies are distributed under license by 20th Century Fox even though they too are part of the Marvel universe.

Like the “X-Men” films, also associated with Fox, “Deadpool” is therefore not considered part of the wider Marvel Cinematic Universe project; neither was Spider-Man until Disney and Sony renegotiated the character’s movie rights, resulting in his cameo in “Captain America: Civil War”, solo movie “Spider-Man: Homecoming” and ensemble picture “Avengers: Infinity War”.

In December 2017, Disney and Fox unveiled a proposed $52 billion agreement that would see Fox’s film, TV, and cable networks, among other interests, become part of Disney.

By May 2018, a week after “Deadpool 2” made its United States debut, Comcast announced its intention to make a counter-offer for the same Fox divisions. JB
