Luis Fonsi of “Despacito” fame was one of the top winners at Sunday night’s Billboard Music Awards, where he also revealed he has a new collaboration coming in three weeks’ time.

The Puerto Rican singer-songwriter was nominated for several Billboard Music Awards and took home five, all for his collaboration with Daddy Yankee and Justin Bieber on “Despacito”.

Late last year, another collaboration revealed that the success of Fonsi’s “Despacito” was no fluke, as Fonsi lent his star power to “Échame La Culpa”, a joint track with Demi Lovato which hit one billion views on YouTube on March.

Speaking with Billboard on the red carpet on Sunday, Fonsi discussed the success of “Despacito”, saying he was “very grateful for all the support” and acknowledging the “great feeling” of seeing Latin music gain in international popularity.

Fonsi then went on to offer a tease of his next collaboration, saying “There’s something really cool coming up, in three weeks I drop a new single. Something a little different, but it’s very kind of islandy. I hope you guys like it… it’s like a British Jamaican artist, that’s all I’m gonna say.” JB
