Benedict Cumberbatch suggested that actors should steer clear from projects which do not offer equal pay between male and female stars.
The “Avengers: Infinity War” actor championed equal pay as one of the key points of feminism. He said during an interview with Radio Times, “Equal pay and a place at the table are the central tenets of feminism.”
He added, “Look at your quotas. Ask what women are being paid, and say: ‘If she’s not paid the same as the men, I’m not doing it.’”
Cumberbatch also plans to produce more female-focused dramas with business partner Adam Ackland through their new company SunnyMarch. In the report, he revealed that one of the projects they plan to work on involves a story told in a woman’s perspective, about motherhood set in a time of environmental disaster.
Cumberbatch currently plays the character of Dr. Stephen Strange in the Marvel Cinematic Universe superhero movie franchise. He also portrayed the dragon Smaug in “The Lord of the Rings” spinoff, “The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug”. Alfred Bayle/JB
