Suits (Korea) is here for your VIU-ing pleasure

The Korean adaptation of popular United States legal drama “Suits” is now available on Viu. Starring Jang Dong-gun and Park Hyung-sik, the Korean drama premieres this week.

Viu, the video-on-demand app, is a service in the Philippines that offers fast, legal and free streaming and downloading of Korean variety shows, dramas and music programs with English subtitles.

The Korean version, aimed to focus on interpretation rather than imitation, revolves around the relationship between legendary lawyer Choi Kang-suk and rookie lawyer Go Yeon-woo. Choi hires Go as an associate lawyer, even though he isn’t qualified for the job, valuing his photographic memory.

“The drama is a character play. The series is different from other Korean dramas, making the characters stand out,” director Kim Jin-woo said at a media briefing prior to the show’s broadcast, K-Pop Herald reported. “The episodes were focused on highlighting the characters’ charms.”

Another thing that should be looked out for in the series is the chemistry between the two lead actors despite a 20-year age difference. This was vouched by their director saying that from the first meeting, the director was satisfied with the harmony between the two. He recounted, “I just looked at them and it looked great. From then, I was sure of my choice.”

Park, who previously starred in Strong Woman Do-bong Soon, said that he was attracted by the relationship between the two male characters after watching the American series.

“I was overwhelmed at first when cast for the role, due to the enormous amount of lines,” the 26 year-old actor recounted. “But the chemistry between the characters and the catchy lines attracted me.”

While the original show is currently in its seventh season, Jang stopped watching in the first season, worried he might unconsciously copy the “exceptionally charming” character.

“Suits (Korea)” marks the 46-year-old actor’s return to the small screen after a six-year hiatus. He explained his project choice, saying, “As my recent work has been dark and sad, I wanted to do something light.” JB
