The British band released the track “Hunger” to herald their new album, “High As Hope”.
“At 17, I started to starve myself/ I thought that love was a kind of emptiness,” lead singer Florence Welch begins. “And at least I understood then the hunger I felt/ And I didn’t have to call it loneliness,” she goes on, before the refrain “We all have a hunger” kicks in.
The video shows Welch letting loose and dancing in an empty hallway and in a living room. Various people in a museum or gallery come to look at a damaged statue, seemingly enthralled by its beauty; some fall to their knees or touch it wonderingly. A leafy fern that Welch places in the statue’s palm sprouts, covering the statue in vines and greenery.
The clip is directed by Andres Gonzalez Rojas, who has previously directed videos for “Sixteen Saltines” by Jack White, “Harmony Of Indifference” by Kamasi Washington and “Days Of Kindness” by Leonard Cohen.
The band recently released another track, “Sky Full of Song”, for Record Store Day 2018.
“High As Hope” will drop June 29. JB
