American actress and writer Issa Rae recently became the talk of social media when an advice she wrote in her 2015 book “The Misadventures of an Awkward Black Girl” came under the spotlight. In the book, Rae wrote that there is no better intellectual match for educated black women than an Asian man. However, Rae excluded Filipinos, saying they are the black people of Asia.

“Educated black women, what better intellectual match for you than an Asian man? And I’m not talking about Filipinos; they’re like the blacks of Asians. I’m talking Chinese, Vietnamese, Japanese, et cetera,” wrote Rae in her book.

Many netizens have since given their own take on Rae’s advice, some finding offense in her apparent discrimination, while others insisting she was just being satirical. It seems, however, that Rae’s dating advice did not pass actor Enchong Dee’s scrutiny too, as he took to his Instagram yesterday to react to it.

“Welcome to 2018 everybody,” wrote Dee, seemingly disappointed. “Just when you thought humanity is getting better.” Dee’s Instagram Story has since been deleted.

Jeff Canoy, a local reporter, also tweeted about Rae’s dating advice, sharing the article and calling it “so many levels of wrong.”

Thus far, Rae has not given a comment regarding the issue since it blew up this week, remaining silent on all her social media accounts.  /ra
