Jhong Hilario waxed nostalgic in an Instagram post on Wednesday when he shared a photo of him with old pals from his dancing days in the ‘90s.
He thanked pals Mike and Lito and best friend Dennis. He said they were with him when he auditioned at Equinox Disco in 1993, a gig which eventually landed him a spot in the iconic ‘90s dance group Streetboys.
The dance group is celebrating its 25th anniversary this year and its former members couldn’t also be more thankful.
Popular during the ‘90s, the Streetboys performed regularly in variety shows like “Eat Bulaga” and “A.S.A.P.,” and dance shows like “Easy Dancing.”
They were famous for dance hits such as “I Saw the Sign” (Ace of Base), “MMMbop” (Hanson), “Feel Like Dance” (Globe), “You Gotta Lick it” (Roula), and “On Ne Saimera Plus Jamais” (Larusso).
Some members eventually joined showbiz, including Spencer Reyes, who became a popular teen star in the mid- to late-90s.
Another member, Vhong Navarro, a naturally funny man, started as a sidekick of lead actors before he found his break as an A-list comedian. Today, he hosts ABS-CBN’s noontime show “It’s Showtime” and has top-billed some of the biggest comedy flicks of the network.
Hilario also pursued an acting career, playing mostly villain roles. Other Streetboys dancers had set up their own businesses or segued to teaching dance. /ee
