Singer Moira Dela Torre has been known for her mellow voice, guitar-playing and sentimental performances. Recently, she showed a bit more of herself to her fans through her own “#TAGPUANSTORY,” by speaking about her relationship with her father.

Dela Torre posted a throwback photo of the two of them hugging outside a San Francisco, California house where the 1993 Robin Williams movie “Mrs. Doubtfire” was shot. Her Instagram post, made on Tuesday, April 24, narrated what she went through as a child after her parents’ annulment.

As her dad once tried to “kidnap her,” her mother decided to move to Olongapo City. She mostly stayed indoors for the next few years. During this time, she saw the film “Mrs. Doubtfire” over and over, to the point that she had it memorized.

“Although I didn’t understand what was happening then, I remember understanding that I was in a similar situation as Mrs. Doubtfire’s kids, secretly wishing my dad would show up dressed as a nanny,” she said.

“Mrs. Doubtfire” gave her hope about getting reunited with her father someday. Twelve years later, Dela Torre’s father indeed re-emerged in her life. She said: “No more kidnapping or hidden agendas.. he never dressed up as a nanny either but God had healed both him and my mom and [I]’ve had two homes since then.”

When she and her father had the chance to go to the “Mrs. Doubtfire” house, she of course found it a surreal experience, since the house and the film meant so much to her as a child. She also honored her father, telling her fans about his perseverance, devotion and spirituality.

“Thank you for being God’s reminder to me that just because our past was broken doesn’t mean our future will be, too,” she said in praise of her father.

Fans were inspired by her post, with some relating it to why they cry when hearing her song “Tagpuan”.

As Dela Torre’s fans are moved by her story, the singer cherishes the lesson she learned along the way — “that love defies distance and time.” JB
