Regine Velasquez says she never put in her mind that she is famous

Odd for someone as famous as her to say such but Asia’s songbird Regine Velasquez said she really never realized how famous she was. She even joked about not thinking of herself as if she’s a supermodel.

“I accepted the fact that I am older. Saka more than anything else, I’m a wife, I’m a mom. Priority ko ang pamilya ko kaya hindi ko na masyadong naiisip na supermodel ako,” she said in a recent interview with select members of the entertainment press at the first audition leg of her newest singing contest, “The Clash.”

“Never ko inisip na sumikat ako. For me it was a job, it was my dream I was very thankful that I got it. ‘Yun ‘yung kabataan ko pero hahit nu’ng bata ako, looking back, basta mag-iisip lang ako ng concept, hahayaan ko na sila tapos i-stress ko ‘yung sarili ko may manood ba? Then ngayon na I’m older I’m more realistic,” she added.

Velasquez has had a stellar singing and acting career that spans 30 years now. She started in the late ‘80s winning singing contests and even represented the Philippines in the international scene.

But it was until the ‘90s that she rose to fame as among the most successful Filipino singers of all time. Her incredible vocal prowess made a mark in the pop culture that her songs and way of singing became a benchmark for promising singers wanting to make their way into showbiz.

She has popularized among the most powerful and endearing songs and has filled out concert stages and arenas whenever she held concerts.

Her talent also paved the way for her to sing with different international artists like Bryan McKnight, 98 Degrees, David Hasselhoff and Mandy Moore, among others.

McKnight has even been quoted as saying Velasquez is one of the best singers he’s ever sang with.

But even though she has achieved such level of success, it never got to her mind that she is who she is.

“Dati nga hindi ko inisip na sikat ako ngayon pa ba na hindi na ko masyado sikat iisipin ko pa ba sikat ako?” she ended.
