Kris Aquino talks skincare, starts wellness journey after health scare

Taking care of one’s self seems to take a backseat, especially when it comes to busy women who grind and hustle beneath the pressure of their high-flying careers. It’s a reality that a number of women may be guilty of, with their time for rest and rejuvenation sacrificed in the name of commitments and responsibilities.

Queen of All Media Kris Aquino is known to be a workhorse, juggling various endorsements on one side, while balancing mother duties on the other. In the past month, Aquino was known to have flown out of the country for medical reasons, and while test results have since come out normal, the unwavering Aquino shared to her fans that she is now compelled to take precautions.

“We shall avoid all my allergy triggers & be ready for all emergencies. We won’t ignore my iron & vitamin D deficiency,” wrote Aquino on Instagram last week. “We’ll take extra care knowing I’m anemic & will get the correct sleep & rest. And we’ll closely monitor my thyroid function.”

Moreover, Aquino added that she hopes to encourage moms and all parents in general to get a thorough health valuation. “I’ll know I used my platform for good because how do we take care of our families if we don’t first take care for ourselves?”

Meanwhile, Aquino shared yesterday that she had just started on her wellness journey. She revealed she and her team have done their research about the importance of vitamin D — which she is known for being deficient in — and its immunity-boosting powers. “Best way to get it is directly from the sun from UVB rays, not UVA — and they have to be at least at a 50 degree angle — no benefit when the sun isn’t completely all over you & also bad to overdo it by staying out too long,” Aquino advised.

“You can google this through the US Naval Observatory Website & we just typed in Quezon City in Form B for the optimum time,” continued Aquino. “20 minutes, 9:25 am earlier today, sitting in the fully exposed area of my balcony & I got my vitamin sunshine.”

The learning curve is definitely real, as Aquino shared, too, that it is only now that she is learning about the benefits of sun exposure. “I’ve been afraid of sun exposure & sun damage to my skin that I overlooked its health benefits,” Aquino admitted. “Now I’m learning.”

It seems that the angst surrounding ageing has given rise to a certain kind of phobia towards wrinkles and sunspots: nobody wants them. Today, there are various skincare methods available out in the market: there’s the 10-step Korean skincare routine, different types of serums, sunscreens and facial oils, while there are also toners, masks and what-have-yous. But the sun is not evil and, as per Aquino’s recent revelations, has its merits and health benefits. JB
