Gabbi Garcia loves her flat chest, stretch marks despite bashers’ body shaming
For actress-singer-model Gabbi Garcia, living in the spotlight is a double-edged sword that comes with constant scrutiny and misplaced hatred. Being in the public eye puts pressure like no other on celebrities to strive for the unattainable: perfect bodies and perfect lives. The multi-hyphenate Garcia, however, is not having any of it.
In a powerful message made on Instagram yesterday, Garcia told her fans once and for all that despite her flaws, she does not see anything wrong with her body. “Whenever I post swimsuit photos, people would always bully me for my body,” wrote Garcia as she posted a picture of her in a one-piece swimsuit. “Well, guess what!! Yes, I have no boobs, I’m flat chested + I have my own fair share of stretch marks. And I don’t see anything wrong with it.”
“If your definition of being ‘sexy’ doesn’t fit with my body type, well then sorry, but I LOVE MY BODY.”
Garcia also encouraged her followers, telling them no person should ever be subjected to bullying just for their body. She also reminded them that they are all beautiful on their own.
“Nobody deserves to be bullied just because of your body,” added Garcia. “We are all beautiful in our own way! #NoToBodyShaming #LoveYourBody.”
The 19-year-old Garcia’s post comes as a commendable force to her almost two million-strong followers, most of whom are young teenaged girls who look up to her. And when it comes to teenage girls, battling with insecurities and low self-esteem is almost a universal concept.
There is always a story of a young woman being shamed and bullied for being too fat, too ugly, too short, too tall, or just being too much of everything — saddled with impossible expectations that usually lead to self-harm, depression or eating disorders. And to Garcia’s young followers, her admirable and empowering message can make their dealings with life perhaps at least a little bit easier. JB
