There’s a new queen in town, it seems. Perhaps not your typical beauty queen who sashays down the stage and offers a solution to attain world peace, but instead the queen of laughs and sarcasm so derisive it might just be censored on national television. Nobody gets immunity from the comical Ethel Booba, it appears, whether you’re from the government, the entertainment industry or what not — as even the newly-crowned beauties of Binibining Pilipinas 2018 weren’t exempted from Ethel’s cheeky gags.
The Q&A portion may arguably be one of the most crucial bouts in the prestigious pageant and is usually met with a mixed bag of jitters, stuttering and the occasional confident yet seemingly scripted answer. On March 19, a day after the coronation night, Ethel took to Twitter to support the winners of Binibining Pilipinas 2018.
“A real Kween supports fellow Kweens. Congrats mga Binibini. Charot!” Ethel wrote, as she shared a picture of the night’s winners with her edited in the scene wearing a crown herself.
Ethel also took her time hilariously answering questions from fans on Monday, in beauty queen fashion. One Sebastian Castro (@imyourbubbles), asked Ethel, “What is your insight on [the] government’s ‘Build Build Build’ program?”
“I think this program will bring back the golden age of infrastructure in our country,” replied Ethel. “I hope they include all the imburnals so that no more kids like Aling Vicky’s will fall prey to those open sewers ever again. Charot!”
“If inner beauty is emphasized in beauty pageants, then why are there physical requirements upon joining it?” asked a certain Jeff (@ojie_j).
Ethel bluntly answered, “Your inner beauty is what will help you acquire the crown and fulfill the duties that comes along with it whereas your outer appearance will be the one to help you overcome the auditions. Charot!”
When one Mark Garcia (@iamPerfectMark) asked Ethel, “When is the right time to listen and when is the right time to speak?” Ethel did not miss a beat in alluding to Mocha Uson, Assistant Secretary of the President Communications Operations Office, and her “self-discrimination” blunder in the Senate back in October 2017.
“The best tym 2 speak is wen u already have all the details necessary 2 explain a certain issue. & the best time 2 listen is wen sum1 is speaking,” wrote back Ethel. “That’s y in Senate they call it hearing & if u don’t know how 2 answer u can say I invoke my right against self incrimination. Charot!”
Ethel may not be a beauty queen or the next Miss Universe, but her witty antics just may make her the queen of the Twitterverse. JB
