“The New Mutants” cast
“X-Men” spinoff film “The New Mutants,” originally set for an April 2018 opening, was moved to Feb. 22, 2019 to avoid an overseas screening conflict, an overlap with another film from the same studio, 20th Century Fox, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The characters, originally teenage students at the X-Men’s school for the gifted in the source comics, will be in a horror-themed film adaptation.
Included in the cast are “Game of Thrones” actress Maisie Williams, as the werewolf codenamed Wolfsbane; “Stranger Things” actor Charlie Heaton, as the flying and invulnerable Cannonball; and Anya Taylor-Joy as the teleporting sorceress Magik.
‘13 Reasons Why’ star’s high school déjà vu
Miles Heizer, who plays troubled teen Alex Standall in the drama series “13 Reasons Why,” is also in the gay teen film “Love, Simon,” with a costar from the Netflix show.
“We’re shooting in a high school, and Katherine [Langford] is there, but it’s not ‘13 Reasons Why’—very weird,” Heizer told the fashion website Vman. His costar plays the depressed Hannah Baker in the hit teen series.
Heizer, 23, is young-looking enough to still play high school students. The former “Parenthood” actor disclosed that it’s something he’s gotten used to: “It feels like I’m constantly living in a high school hallway. We’re all too old to be in high school, but we’re still living it.”
Oddly enough, Heizer added, he didn’t attend the usual, traditional high school. “I did, like, a weird charter school,” he related. “You basically taught yourself, and I had the same teacher the whole time. I recently ran into his wife and she was like, ‘Yeah, Mike still has your diploma—you never picked it up!’” —OLIVER PULUMBARIT
