Mariel de Leon clarifies comments on Bb. Pilipinas hopefuls: ‘All the candidates are worthy’
Known for being outspoken, Mariel de Leon has received criticisms from some people for being vocal on certain issues. On several occasions, she has stood ground on what she said.
In an interview with the Philippine Entertainment Portal (PEP), she said she liked “a good underdog.” She was also quoted in the report, “Ayoko ng pinaka-popular (I don’t want the most popular), I like the dark horse, I think, as they say.” De Leon shared she placed her bet on candidates Sandra Lemonon and Anjame Magbitang to win the pageant.
But it seems that some netizens have given color to her statement, with some saying that she was taking a dig at candidate Catriona Gray. Others thought she was trying to be relevant because she is the daughter of actors Christopher de Leon and Sandy Andolong.
Defending herself, she said it was “funny how people immediately assume I was talking about a specific candidate,” the beauty queen posted on Twitter Friday.
She slammed her bashers saying, “[J]ust because other people have different ‘bets’ doesn’t mean they think yours isn’t worthy.” De Leon added, “All the candidates there are worthy. That’s why they’re there.”
