Bernardo Bernardo, the veteran actor who wowed audiences on the stage and on the screen, left the showbiz industry mourning his death at 73 years old.

Bernardo was known for his role as the antagonistic Steve Carpio in the sitcom “Home Along Da Riles” and continued his prolific career well into his senior years, most recently in the 2017 Metro Manila Film Festival Best Picture “Ang Larawan.”

Broadway actress Lea Salonga reminisced about him as her “first leading man” in “The King and I.”

She described him as “kind, funny, ebullient, brilliant, big hearted.”

“Metro Manila” actor Jake Macapagal remembered him with a picture of them together. “Thank you for the love and inspiration,” he said.

Singer Leah Navarro had fond memories of him in their ’80s musical. “Goodbye, Bernardo Bernie Bernardo. It was a treat to work with you in ‘They’re Playing Our Song’ so long ago. You were wonderfully talented, funny, sensitive, and kind.”

Film Development Council of the Philippines chairperson Liza Diño-Seguera recalled that Bernardo was a driving force behind her when she took her position in 2016.

“When I became part of FDCP, s’ya ang isa sa mga unang bumati sa akin (he was one of the first who greeted me),” she narrated. “Napakarami nyang pangarap para sa industriya (he had so many dreams for the industry).”

“Ang hirap tanggaping wala ka na. Isang tunay na kaibigan at kakampi. Mamimiss kita sobra (It’s hard to accept that you’re gone. You were a true friend and ally. I’ll miss you so much).”

Kakai Bautista described him as “iconic.”

Musician and activist Jim Paredes wrote, “So sad to hear this. Bernardo, RIP. You are now in God’s loving embrace.”

“Eat Bulaga!” host Ruby Rodriguez wished him “peace with the Lord.”

Director Joey Reyes bid him goodbye…

…while TV host Kim Atienza said it was “goodbye for now.”

He wrote, “I’ll see you up there when my own curtain call comes. Bravo dear dear friend!”  /ra
