The thought of going without makeup fills many with total angst. It’s easy for one to think that when it comes to beauty queens like Maggie Wilson, insecurities don’t exist and they simply wake up in the morning with glowing, dewy skin and feeling like perfection. This isn’t true. The world of pageantry can at times be cruel and intense, especially when one’s face and body is the main currency; every little flaw may seem like a death sentence. And sometimes, the pressure gets too much to the point of damaging one’s self-image.
Although Wilson may seem to have it all on the surface, the former Bb. Pilipinas-World titleholder admits she has her own fair share of insecurities.
In an Instagram post made yesterday, Wilson showed a picture of herself bare-faced in Siargao Island, admitting that her biggest insecurity is actually her skin.
“I just wanted to share… My skin has always been my biggest insecurity and last week for the first time in a really long time I felt confident enough to step out without any make up,” wrote Wilson candidly. “I did it for several days and it felt so liberating.”

Wilson said that although her change in routine might seem small to most people, it’s difficult to be in an industry so harsh about the littlest of imperfections, so going bare-faced is no mean feat for her. “I always hid behind makeup to make me feel better about myself. Yes, even at the beach!” Wilson added. “Last week was definitely a win for me.”

Wilson then encouraged her fans to love and embrace their flaws — an empowering and authentic gesture, especially coming from a beauty queen like Wilson — and to just strive for happiness.
“To many more days of loving ourselves, embracing our imperfections, and just being happy!” she wrote. There really is nothing more beautiful than confidence and self-love. JB
