Politics isn’t going to come in the way of Sharon Cuneta’s friendship with President Rodrigo Duterte, says the megastar.

On Instagram, Cuneta shared a thank you message from the president himself.

He says, “Ma’am Sharon, thank you for remembering me. I am your good friend and my daughter Sara ay talagang ina-idolize ka hanggang ngayon (really idolizes you until now).

“I am happy she has chosen the right person to be an inspiration. She has been an avid admirer… ako rin for the many things that you have done for me and the family. I am grateful.”

Duterte refers to his first daughter Sara, who is currently mayor of Davao. She has long been a fan of Ate Shawie, with the two finally meeting when Cuneta’s husband, Sen. Kiko Pangilinan linked them during his first term as a senator. Pangilinan’s term started in 2001.

She shared that she and Sara have stayed in touch since 2012 and that they “are sincere and thoughtful enough to separate politics from what after all is more lasting—our friendship.”

Cuneta excitedly thanked the president in her caption, calling him “Tatay Digong” and the video a “precious gift.”

She gushed, “Now I have this message to treasure forever!”

She promised to sing “Ikaw” for Duterte, which the president himself has sung on state trips and even for heads of state, including United States President Donald Trump.

With Pangilinan as a critic of the Duterte administration, coming at odds with both the President and Inday Sara, the actress and singer also expressed gratitude towards him: “Thank you Kiko for your understanding and respect for me as your very apolitical/unpolitical wife.” JB
