YAM Laranas’ latest thriller, “The Road,” has made it to the international horror website Dread Central’s list of best films of 2011. Produced by GMA Films, “The Road” joins such flicks as “Super 8,” “Stake Land,” “Attack the Block” and “Troll Hunter” in the honor roll.

High-profile Hollywood films like “Insidious, “Paranormal Activity 3,” “Final Destination 5” and “Rise of the Planet of the Apes” are on the honorable mention section.

Dread Central hails “The Road” as “beautifully shot and frightfully scary and intelligent.”

Asked about the distinction, Laranas told the Inquirer: “I feel humbled and emboldened to start my next film right away.”

Another foreign website, Beyondhollywood.com, likewise praised Laranas’ film and included it in “Todd’s Top 10 Movies You May Have Missed in 2011”—calling it “spooky … a breath of fresh air.” Bayani San Diego Jr.
