Edward Norton’s “Motherless Brooklyn” fills in cast which includes Bruce Willis, Alec Baldwin

The forthcoming film “Motherless Brooklyn”, written and directed by Edward Norton, is currently shooting in New York City. Norton, who also stars, has added various actors to the cast.

Inspired by Jonathan Lethem’s novel of the same name, the film which is set in 1950s-era New York follows protagonist Lionel Essrog (Norton). A private detective afflicted with Tourette’s Syndrome, he attempts to solve the murder of his mentor and friend, Frank Minna (played by Bruce Willis). The detective’s obsessive mind unravels deep secrets that may have an effect on the fate of the entire city.

Deadline reports that, in addition to Bruce Willis, actors Gugu Mbatha-Raw and Alec Baldwin have signed on.

Oscar nominee Willem Dafoe came on to the project last week. Cherry Jones, Ethan Suplee, Leslie Mann, Josh Pais, Fisher Stevens, Michael K. Williams, and Robert Wisdom are also among the ensemble.

Norton is producing the project alongside his Class 5 Films producing partner Bill Migliore, as well as MWM Studios’ Gigi Pritzker and Rachel Shane.

Executive producers include Michael Bederman, Adrian Alperovich, Sue Kroll, Robert F. Smith, Brian Sheth, and Daniel Nadler. Warner Bros will release the film worldwide.

“Motherless Brooklyn” won the National Book Critics Circle Award for fiction in 1999. JB
