John Lloyd Cruz was extremely surprised upon learning about his nomination in the 15th International Cinephile Society awards.
Cruz had been nominated as Best Supporting Actor for his role in the Lav Diaz-helmed “Ang Babaeng Humayo” (The Woman Who Left) as Hollanda.
He shared the list of his fellow nominees on Instagram, at the same time writing about his disbelief on being nominated alongside icons such as the actor Daniel Day-Lewis:
“Wasak. ICS Awards never in my wildest dreams When i read Daniel Day-Lewis written in his category sabi ko uy panalo na ko.”
(Wicked. ICS Awards, never in my wildest dreams; when I read Daniel Day-Lewis written in his category, I said to myself, “I’m already a winner.”)
Day-Lewis is nominated for Best Actor for the film “Phantom Thread”. Cruz actually has another Hollywood veteran to contend with in the person of Willem Dafoe, nominated for the same category as Cruz. Dafoe is nominated for the film “The Florida Project”.
Other icons in the nominations list include the French veteran actress Juliette Binoche, “Sex and the City” star Cynthia Nixon and Emmy-award winner Laurie Metcalf.
Fans and followers wrote congratulatory messages for his unexpected nomination.
Cruz has been recently linked to the pregnancy of sexy star Ellen Adarna, whom he has been spending a lot of time with since late 2017. JB
