Lea Salonga’s ‘Ang Larawan’ praise ‘helps build my confidence,’ Paulo Avelino says

Theater veteran Lea Salonga gave credit where it was due to actor Paulo Avelino for his stand-out performance in the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) entry “Ang Larawan,”

Salonga lauded on her Twitter page Dec. 30 Avelino’s portrayal of a vaudeville actor in the movie. Noting that although he may “not sing as well as the others,” Salonga said his acting was superb.

“He will be one of the greatest as he continues to grow!!!” the veteran exclaimed.

Returning the kind gesture, Avelino admitted on Friday that he doubted himself doing a musical number as it might affect his performance. But reading her tweet bolstered his confidence to take up more challenging roles in the future.

Ending their exchange, Salonga said his “hard work and dedication were evident on that screen.”

“Ang Larawan” bagged five awards at the MMFF awards night, including “Best Actress” for Joanna Ampil and “Best Picture.”
