17 celeb quotes of 2017

(First of two parts)

The year 2017 has been another crazy year in the show biz circus. Love merry-go-rounds and a roller-coaster of intrigues were in full swing. As a chronicler of the lives of celebrities for many years now, I get to know the persons behind the “personalities.”

As we bid 2017 goodbye, I’d like to thank the stars who trusted me with their stories. Let’s look back at my column’s 17 most memorable celeb quotes in 2017. Bring it on, 2018. Lights, camera, chika!

Vilma Santos

VILMA SANTOS: All actresses dream of playing Darna. My fondest memory of playing the superheroine is this: The RVM sisters in my school told me to wear body stockings while I portray Darna.

Back then, it was a big deal to expose body parts. But during the press con, my manager insisted that I take the body stockings off. When the nuns found out, they prayed over me.

CESAR MONTANO: Even if we were poor during my younger days, I never took it against my parents. Our struggles taught me the value of hard work.

Dawn Zulueta

DAWN ZULUETA: I am kookier than most people think. Don’t let my Instagram feed fool you. When someone ticks me off, sarcastic lines and obscene gestures run through my mind, but never to see the light of day.

IAN VENERACION: Kindness is the key to happiness. If you have everything but you are not kind, you can never be truly happy.

MARTIN NIEVERA: What puzzles me about love is that when you think you give too much, it isn’t enough. And when you think you don’t give enough, you end up giving too much.

Love is a mystery. It’s an emotional battle that can last as long as the stars allow. But, if it never hurts, you know it was never love.

Ogie Alcasid

OGIE ALCASID: It’s easier for me to write songs when I’m sad than when I’m happy. Emotions are easier to express when sadness engulfs me. With happiness, I tend to be more flowery and figurative in describing my emotions.

Coco Martin

COCO MARTIN: The kind of girl who would make me want to settle down is someone who’s nurturing and who would love all of me. A girl I can grow old with and not one who will make me get old faster.

HEART EVANGELISTA: Among all the pieces of advice of the late Sen. Miriam Santiago (who played Cupid to my hubby Sen. Chiz Escudero and me), what stands out is this: We have to be nice, but sometimes, we must learn how to put our foot down. Have a backbone and stand up for what we believe in.

Eugene Domingo

EUGENE DOMINGO: I thought I lost my ability to love. But my boyfriend Danilo (Bottoni) made me realize that the reason for living is love.
