Kris Aquino explains why ‘Star Wars’ has special meaning for her
If you grew up with “Star Wars,” chances are the space saga holds sentimental value for you.
This is also true for Kris Aquino, who shared in an online video of her home tour that her favorite Star Wars movie is “Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi.”
The movie premiered in May 1983, when Kris was 12 years old. Months later, on Aug. 21, her father Ninoy Aquino would be assassinated at the Manila International Airport.
“This is the last movie I got to watch with my dad,” said Kris, the youngest of five children.
“We were still living in Boston. Pumila kami (We lined up) for three hours on opening day for me to be able to watch it.”

She recalled that an entertainment news channel was scouring the line for someone to interview, and she presumed that she stood out because “this little Asian girl was there waiting.”
When she got interviewed, her dad was so excited that he left her at the movie theater and went home to call Lola—Aurora Aquino—with a request to record the local news E! in case she was featured.
“Little did we all know this would be my career,” Kris mused. She has since gone on to host multiple TV shows.
She also revealed that Episodes IV to VI were her favorite movies from the franchise because they held a “soft spot.”
Son Bimby is also a fan and admitted that he has binge-watched the entire franchise. /ra
