In the new film “Ocean’s 8”, Sandra Bullock stars as the scheming Debbie Ocean who’s out to score, because she’s good at it.
Shortly after being released from prison, looking forward to leading a normal life where she just “pays her bills,” Debbie gets to work on a jewel heist with help from Cate Blanchett.
Blanchett plays the role of Debbie’s friend Lou. Despite initial misgivings, Lou helps Debbie recruit other members to participate in Debbie’s plan to steal the $150,000 million necklace of Daphne Kruger (Anne Hathaway) at New York City’s annual Met Gala.
Joining Bullock and Blanchett are Rihanna, Mindy Kaling, Sara Paulson, Awkwafina and Helena Bonham Carter.
James Corden also makes the cast list as Debbie’s confidant.
Fans of the original “Ocean’s Trilogy” may spot Matt Damon and Carl Reiner reprising their roles as Linus Caldwell and Saul Bloom in cameo appearances.
“Ocean’s 8” apparently ties up with the previous “Ocean’s” movies, Debbie Ocean being Danny Ocean’s (George Clooney) estranged sister. The movie may be considered more of a spiritual successor of the series, where its events happen in the same universe but do not necessarily continue what transpired in the first trilogy. JB
