Derek’s ‘dos and don’ts’ in a relationship

/ 12:35 AM December 16, 2017

The incurable romantic in me enjoyed “All of You,” the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) entry of Quantum Films and MJM Productions, when we screened it at the Cinema Evaluation Board. We gave the movie a grade of B.

It is topbilled by Jennylyn Mercado and Derek Ramsay, who both nailed their respective roles. The characters that Jen and Derek portray are caught up in the daily tug of war of emotions. Live-in couples will be able to relate to every scene.

The film makes us realize that, in relationships, there comes a point when partners ask themselves, “Is it too much to ask, or too much to give?” “All of You” shows the other side of love. Not just the rosy part, but the thorny one, as well.

It will make you reassess your own love life. You end up asking yourself if you’re holding on too long or giving up too soon. Love isn’t always the answer. It can sometimes be the question, too.

FEATURED STORIES

Here’s my chat with Derek:

In what ways are you similar to your character in “All of You”? My character Gab and I are alike in the sense that we live one day at a time. We aren’t that committed to the future. We live in the moment, and savor it.

What makes your relationship with your girlfriend (Joanne Vill ablanca) work? We’ve both been through so much. We learn from our mistakes so we won’t make the same mistakes again. We have a lot of things in common, like our love for sports and travel.

What love lessons does your movie impart? Being in a relationship entails a lot of work. Love is important, but there are other factors that couples have to continually work on. Marriage isn’t always the solution. Be ready before jumping into marriage.

Do you and Joanne have marriage plans already? We don’t have marriage plans yet, but we want to eventually go down that road someday.

What scares you about marriage? It doesn’t scare me at all. I just want to be sure that my partner and I are ready for it in all aspects, so it won’t turn into a big mistake.

When your son is old enough, what advice would you give him about women and love? He should listen to his heart, but he should also let his mind guide him. Make sure he truly knows what he’s feeling. Never act impulsively.

What people don’t know about Derek Ramsay? That I’m a sucker for love. I’ve fallen in love and got hurt many times. But, I’m the type who would get back on my feet and love again.

From ‘AlDub’ to ‘NullDub’?

After Maine Mendoza’s shocking open letter to her fans, has her phenomenal love team with Alden Richards, “AlDub,” turned into “NullDub”?

Pia Wurtzbach sizzles as a superhero in “Gandarrapiddo: The Revenger Squad.” We, at the Cinema Evaluation Board, gave Star Cinema and Viva Films’ MMFF entry a grade of B. Clad in a shimmering gold costume, Pia proves that she’s overqualified to be the millennial Darna, whose latest incarnation will be played by Liza Soberano. The former Miss Universe ought to make more movies. It would be interesting to watch her portray an intricate role in a meatier movie next time around.
