MMFF 2017: Celebrities comment on ‘Deadma Walking’ movie
Celebrities give their judgments on the much-talked about Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) 2017 entry, “Deadma Walking.”
Apart from the usually expected box-office players during MMFF, another movie that’s spreading massive curiosity to the public is “beshy” drama-comedy “Deadma Walking.”
Starring Joross Gamboa and Edgar Allan Guzman, the movie circles around the life of two gay best friends who basically got each other’s back for life—and even in death.
Gamboa plays the role of John, a terminally ill gay businessman who plans to fake his death to see what happens in his funeral. Meanwhile, Mark, played by Guzman, mounts a fake wake to fulfill the final wish of his best friend.
Given an “A” grade by the Cinema Evaluation Board, a crowd of filmmakers, press, representatives from the LGBT (Lesbians, Gays, Bisexuals, Transgenders) sector, and celebrity friends of the cast and production team flocked at the movie’s recent celebrity screening.

The 2017’s breakout star and “Kita-Kita” leading man Empoy Marquez also went to support the movie lead stars, who are also his good friends. Marquez praised Joross and Edgar for their distinct and on-point take on gay roles.
“Sobrang nagulat ako sa kanila. Itong pelikulang ito ang isa sa pinaka-aabangan sa MMFF sa darating na pasko,” he said.
Ladlad partylist Rep. Raymond Alikpala echoed Empoy’s praise as he said: “Enjoyed seeing gay and transgender persons depicted sympathetically on the big screen. This latest morbid comedy is so hilarious, so fun to watch, yet still has its heart in the right place. The lead actors are totally committed to their roles. Bravo, beshies!”
Most of all, people those who have seen it were tickled by the real friendship and unconditional love that the movie played on. Film reviewer Philip Cu-Unjieng wrote: “The filmmakers have created an insightful, relatively fast-paced story that helps us redefine family, friendship and morality. It’s a humor-filled excursion into the psyche and life of modern gay. This is part of the magi of the film, how it works on several levels.”
Produced by T-Rex Entertainment and directed by Julius Alfonso, “Deadma Walking” hits cinemas this coming December 25.
