WATCH: ‘Jurassic World 2’ builds momentum with ‘Run’ teaser

Universal Pictures has offered up a taster of dinosaur movie “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom” ahead of a full trailer on Dec. 7 and a June 2018 theatrical release.

The short 15-second video has dinosaur researcher and military veteran Owen Grady (Chris Pratt, “Guardians of the Galaxy”) urging his companions to run.

Claire Dearing (Bryce Dallas Howard, two “Twilight Saga” films) also returns from 2015’s “Jurassic World”, where she served as the safari park’s operations manager. The pair are joined by a new face, a scientist played by Justice Smith (“Paper Towns”, “The Get Down”). The trio flee and take shelter from a dinosaur stampede and what appears to be an erupting volcano.

Based on Michael Crichton’s novel of the same name, 1993 Steven Spielberg movie “Jurassic Park” starred Sam Neill, Laura Dern, Richard Attenborough and Jeff Goldblum.

Goldblum led the 1997 sequel “The Lost World” and, like franchise veteran B. D. Wong, is returning for “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom”, whose tagline references a Goldblum line from the first film.

“Jurassic Park III” arrived in 2001, and despite diminished interest in the property, it helped push the franchise past a global box office return of $2 billion.

A $1.6bn “Jurassic World” proved there was life left in the franchise, surpassing even the original film’s $1 billion take; investment in “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom” is thought to have risen to $250 million from its predecessor’s $150 million.

Co-written by “Jurassic World” director Colin Trevorrow and directed by J. A. Bayona of “A Monster Calls” and “The Impossible”, “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom” has been dated for a United States release on June 22, 2018, with European and Australasian territories marked down for a June 7 or 8 debut.
