Variety reports that “Daphne and Velma” will reveal Daphne Blake and Velma Dinkley’s backstories as high school best friends. They meet online and study together in Ridge Valley High, a high-tech school funded by billionaire Tobias Bloom.
Daphne and Velma begin their sleuthing career when students vying for an internship with Bloom begin to disappear and turn up zombie-like.
Sarah Jeffery stars as Daphne and Sarah Gilman as Velma.
The movie is produced by sister team Ashley and Jennifer Tisdale through Blondie Girl Productions and Warner Bros. Television Group’s Blue Ribbon Content digital studio. Ashley is known for her role in “High School Musical.”
The sisters, in a joint statement, said, “Blondie Girl is committed to telling stories from a female perspective and we could not be more thrilled to give Daphne and Velma their own story.”
“It’s so exciting to partner with Warner Home Entertainment and Blue Ribbon Content to introduce a new generation to the smart, charismatic, fearless females that we all know and love.”
The animated series “Scooby-Doo, Where Are You!” is a Hanna-Barbera production, which first aired in 1969 on CBS.
