‘Crazy Rich Asians’ gets August 2018 release date
“Crazy Rich Asians” is set for release in August 2018, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The comedy is based on the titular Kevin Kwan novel, which delves into the secret lives of Asia’s elite from an outsider’s perspective.
Taiwanese-American Rachel Chu (Constance Wu) is unknowingly thrust into a high-class world when she vacations in Singapore with her boyfriend, Nick Young (Henry Golding).
Nick turns out to be part of an extremely wealthy Chinese family, and his social circle makes sure she doesn’t belong.
The movie stands out as a Hollywood film with an all-Asian cast since 1993’s “The Joy Luck Club.”

Cast members include Michelle Yeoh (“Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon”), Ken Jeong (“Hangover”) and Harry Shum Jr. (“Glee”).
Filipinos in the cast include Nico Santos, who will play Oliver T’sien, Nick’s cousin. Kris Aquino will also make an appearance and has hinted that she would play a princess.
On Instagram, Aquino shared that she treated Filipino theater producer Jhett Tolentino to dinner as an expression of gratitude for connecting her to the film’s casting panel.
She wrote that it was a spur-of-the-moment audition: “It was a prayed for turning point in my life—the audition I did within 48 hrs of Jhett’s 1st call, I remember thinking we’d give our all so come what may I’d have zero regrets.” Niña V. Guno /ra
