In the penultimate season of “Game of Thrones”, winter has finally come to Westeros—and will make shooting on location even harder.
As if a week between episodes wasn’t hard enough, fans are truly in for a long wait until the final season. According to the Hollywood Reporter, season 8’s release could take until 2019.
Shooting is expected to begin in October, but HBO says the timeline has yet to be drawn up.
Filming in different continents and special effects are the considerations in estimating when the final season will be available, said HBO programming president Casey Bloys said to the news outlet.
Another complication is the snow: with the winter comes schedules limited to freezing temperatures.
HBO had to push back season 7’s release to July instead of April because shoots had to take place in cold weather.
While there will only be six episodes—the shortest season yet—fans may be treated to 80 minutes on each one.
In the meantime, fans can watch HBO’s behind-the-scenes documentary of the show, “The Game Revealed”. The first episode is already up on Youtube.
Perhaps, if “Game of Thrones” creator George RR Martin gets his long-awaited sixth book—the fifth installment was published in 2011—out by 2018, the wait would also be slightly more bearable. Niña V. Guno/JB
