Sarah Silverman bats for ‘existence of love’ vs ‘ideology of hate’

Comedienne Sarah Silverman, known for her irreverence on often-touchy subjects, recently turned serious in the wake of the violent, racially motivated protest that took place in Charlottesville, Virginia, earlier this month.
In a Facebook post, she reached out, surprisingly, to white nationalists. “I can’t imagine what life is like for you and … this brotherhood of hate feels like a place you can belong,” she said. “I believe that you can, if you wish, find the great bravery in yourself to shed your ideology of hate and join us in an existence of love. You do have a purpose and there’s a community for you.”
The standup comic-actress added, “This is our home now—all of us. And there is a place for you in it—sit beside me… Love, your Jewish friend, Sarah.”
To date, the post has received over 38,000 reactions, over 3,000 comments, and has been shared over 5,000 times.
Nolan Gould’s antisuicide campaign
“Modern Family” actor Nolan Gould, who started playing the cute tyke Luke eight years ago, is now grown-up and tackling more mature roles.
He plays a gay teen whose tryst is discovered by his dad in rapper Logic’s music video for his new suicide-prevention tune, “1-800-273-8255.”
Gould’s high school student character is in a relationship with an African-American schoolmate, played by Coy Stewart.
His dad is portrayed by Matthew Modine, while Stewart’s is played by Don Cheadle.
An excerpt from the video, which has gotten over 11 million views so far on YouTube, was shared by Gould on Instagram. “What an amazing project to be a part of. You’re not alone,” the 18-year-old actor said.
Stewart, 19, echoed his coactor’s thoughts, and shared the titular suicide prevention hotline number: “Blessed to be [a part] of such an amazing project… If you’re ever going through a hard time, please, don’t give up. [Call] 1-800-273-8255.”—OLIVER PULUMBARIT
