Jessica Chastain radiates power in the true-to-life story of a woman who formed a high-stakes poker game that counted the world’s elite as its players.
The movie is based on the memoir of Molly Bloom, a former Olympic skier who started a poker empire which included Hollywood stars Leonardo di Caprio and Ben Affleck, famous athletes and business moguls.
After a decade of earning millions of dollars a year, Bloom was arrested by the Federal Bureau of Investigation when the Mafia got involved and was investigated for her underground poker games.
Stakes started at a quarter of a million dollars in Hollywood. She eventually moved to New York where stakes increased to $4 million, she revealed to the Daily Mail.
Bloom penned her story “Molly’s Game: From Hollywood’s Elite to Wall Street’s Billionaire Boys Club, My High-Stakes Adventure in the World of Underground Poker” and hid identities with pseudonyms.
Writer Aaron Sorkin, whose previous works include “The Social Network” and “Moneyball” adapts it to the screen as writer and director. This is Sorkin’s directorial debut.
British actor Idris Elba plays criminal defense lawyer Charlie Jaffey who digs deeper into her case. Michael Cera and Kevin Costner also star in the film, which hits theaters in November 22, 2017. JB
