MANILA, Philippines – “It’s not my son’s fault,” Senator Panfilo “Ping” Lacson said Tuesday when he spoke, for the first time, about the failed marriage of his son with actress Jodi Sta. Maria.
Lacson said his son and namesake, Panfilo Lacson Jr., would initiate annulment proceedings against Sta. Maria with whom he has a son also named after the senator.
“Yung anak ko ang nagpapa file ng annulment. Nire-resolve lang nila yung custody nung bata because yung anak ko mahal na mahal yung anak nya – Panfilo III yun e [It is my son who wants the annulment to be filed. They are just resolving the custody of the child because my son loves his child very much – he is after all Panfilo III],” the senator told reporters.
He said the two were civil with each other and were actually talking over child custody.
“Civil naman sila. Basta ang masasabi ko lang walang kasalanan yung anak ko [They are civil to each other. All I can say is, it’s not my son’s fault],” said Senator Lacson.
Asked if there was a third party involved on the part of the actress, the senator laughed and said, “No comment.”
“Whatever reason my son has for filing or planning to file the annulment, I respect it. That’s his decision. That is life. I’m only there to support him, to give him guidance,” the senator added.
Lacson, who will celebrate his 63rd birthday on Wednesday, said his only wish was for his children to be happy.
