In their first stop in their US tour, Coldplay paid tribute to deceased American rocker Chester Bennington.
Lead vocalist Chris Martin performed an acoustic piano cover of “Crawling” at the MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.
According to the Guardian, Martin said, “I know this is probably going to end up on YouTube so I want to do it right, and I want to do it respectfully.”
“This is to everybody who misses someone you know. This is for our whole community of musicians,” he added.
Linkin Park member Mike Shinoda and Bennington’s wife, Talinda, expressed their gratitude for the subdued cover.
In tweets, Shinoda said he received the video via text and wished he were there.
Talinda, Chester’s second wife, felt empowered with Martin’s cover:

Bennington is survived by his six children from three different mothers.
