While reviving songs is the easier way to make a buck or please a listener, Robin Nievera insists on creating original music, because, he said, “that’s what makes us artists and not just singers…It’s what makes us different from everyone else.”

Robin, along with his fellow artists at the record label Homeworkz, is spearheading Original Music Only (OMO)—a campaign that, among other things, mounts a bar tour, where musicians can perform and share with each other songs they crafted.

“No one judges how we play or what we sing. All our ideas and songs are welcome in this tour,” Robin related, adding that he envisions the OMO tour growing into a full-blown music festival someday—an event that will appeal to the millennials, as well as the generations that preceded them.

“We’re at that stage where musicians can leverage their own branding and marketing. And the good thing about it is that there’s no one telling them what to do,” the singer-songwriter pointed out. “There’s no room for compromise or shortchanging stuff. It’s all about being intuitive and trusting your own musical voice.”—ALLAN POLICARPIO
