Ogie Diaz reacts to Duterte’s newest rape joke

Entertainment columnist and comedian Ogie Diaz expressed dismay over President Rodrigo Duterte’s recent rape joke.
The President uttered the joke about Miss Universe beauties during his speech last Friday in Davao City.
“What I don’t like are kids (being raped.) You can mess with, maybe Miss Universe. Maybe I will even congratulate you for having the balls to rape somebody when you know you are going to die,” the President said.
One of the many personalities who expressed immediate dismay over the President’s words was Diaz. The talent manager wrote his opinion on Facebook.
Diaz said that the President’s good deeds unfortunately get overlooked because of the things he tend to say, such as rape jokes: “Nababalewala ang magagandang ginagawa niya dahil sa rape joke niya.”
Diaz also pointed out that such jokes are inappropriate to be coming from someone who is looked upon as the father of the nation. He said those who love the President should inform him that rape is not a subject to make jokes out of.

He appealed to people surrounding the President to advice the leader about being careful with the things he says. And as for those who point out that the President’s offensive jokes can be overshadowed by the good things he does, Diaz has this to say: “‘yun naman talaga ang inaasaahan natin sa kanya, di ba?” (That is actually what we expect from him, right?)

While he criticized the President, he also shared that he had episodes of defending him from the judgments of those who are maka-dilaw. However, Diaz remains firm that the rape jokes must stop.
Being a comedian, he even offered the President his own set of jokes, for the President’s disposal anytime. Diaz’s jokes are, as he said, more modern and fit for millennials.
He further said that the President could actually utter jokes anytime, just not the ones that could be taken seriously by those who are not in the right state of mind, lest these people take the joke seriously and actually go out to commit rape, thinking it’s cool because the President’s jokes might have made it sound cool.
To close, in the context of how the joke is offensive to women, Diaz appealed to the President to think about his daughter Kitty.
