More highlights and low blows coming up

Most of the time, when a TV “dramedy” finally gets to its regulation wedding scene, that’s a sure sign that the show has peaked and reached its conclusion.

On “A Love to Last,” however, we may have another think coming: Last June 16, Bea Alonzo and Ian Veneracion’s lovely and love-besotted characters finally tied the knot in appropriately dreamy nuptial rites—but, at telecast’s end, it was more than hinted at that some more developments were forthcoming—so, stay love-loopily tuned!

What those new developments will be, viewers will just have to “read between the lines” and figure out for themselves. From where we sit, we sense that, aside from the honeymoon, additional highlights and low blows could include Ian’s ex-wife, played by Iza Calzado.

During her final scene last June 16, she looked like she wasn’t about to leave the newlyweds alone—and could be plotting to rain on their marital parade!

As for the “wedding telecast” itself, it sometimes looked like the series’ creative staffers had decided to take the day off and leave the proceedings pretty much in the hands of—the wedding planners!

There were precious few real plot and character developments in store for viewers, who were invited to simply sigh and savor the charismatic beauty of the show’s two leads, Bea and Ian.

Bea, in particular, was a vision of loveliness and delight, the series’ extravagantly generous gift for all love and sugar junkies.

After a while, however, all that romantic overload began to feel too rich for comfort, so we looked for something more substantial. But, the wedding planners “directing” the gorgeous lovefest had nothing more up their ample sleeves…

Despite the romantic excess, we found ourselves marveling at Bea’s ability to sustain her character’s unique edge, even as she breathtakingly vivified the series’ tribute to love and beauty.

Nobody else today can pull that double-whammy off, so Bea is really the star and actress to beat this season.

Producers should take fuller advantage of this unique gift, while it’s at its prime.

Now in her 30s, Bea is on the verge of sliding down into the “gradually maturing” phase of her career.

So, the best projects should be conceptualized and green-lighted for her now, before the inevitable onus of time and physical wear and tear take their toll.

As for Ian, he’s already in his 40s, so his career parameters are different from Bea’s. But it should be noted that he’s enjoying a second spring in his career, so his handlers should similarly take advantage of this golden opportunity to add to his stellar clout and range.

For starters, Ian could look even better if he loses some weight and goes for a leaner, more chiseled look.

In close-ups with Bea, he’s as dreamily handsome as can be, but looks a little pudgy in the jowls beside her—so, some “chiseling” is in order.
