Controversial TV series “13 Reasons Why” was renewed for a second season, and this time it will follow the characters surrounding Hannah Baker’s life.
The show, executive produced by singer Selena Gomez, is based on the bestselling book by Jay Asher which lists the reasons behind teenager Hannah’s suicide. Through tapes, Hannah tells those she left behind why she was driven to take her own life. The story tackles bullying, mental health and sexual violence against women.
The first season featured Hannah, played by Katherine Langford, as the narrator, and Clay Jensen (Dylan Minnette) trying to piece together the roles everyone played in her life—and death.
According to the Netflix teaser, the second season will feature “other perspectives on Hannah’s story.” There will be more tapes but there will still be a narrator—but it won’t be Hannah. Jessica (Alisha Boe), Hannah’s ex-friend who has a particularly traumatic story, will also be put into light “as she tries to return to normal life.”

Given that the story highlights how women are sexually abused, the show promises to “explore the way boys are raised into men and the way we treat women, and what we could do better.”
While some wonder how Hannah will still figure in, the story does leave cliffhangers, and some hope to see characters get their justice.
