The Katy Perry-Taylor Swift feud has dragged on for a few years, to the point that most people don’t remember why it started in the first place.
But in a SiriusXM radio show, the “I Kissed a Girl” singer revealed that she was ready to talk to the 27-year-old pop star: “I am ready, because I think when women unite, the world is going to heal,” she said.
Rumors are that Katy’s latest song “Swish Swish” is a diss track in response to Taylor’s “Bad Blood”. She denied this on the radio show, saying “isn’t about any one thing.”
The pop singer-songwriter opened up on James Corden’s carpool Karaoke, relating, “Honestly, she started it, and it’s time for her to finish it. It’s about backing dancers, it’s so crazy!”
She went on to recount what happened: “There’s like three backing dancers that went on tour with her tour, right, and they asked me before they went on tour if they could go, and I was like ‘Yeah, of course, I’m not on a record cycle and [you should] get the work and all that, but I will be in a record cycle for probably in a year, so be sure to put a 30-day contingency in your contract so you can get out if you wanna join me when I say I’m going back on.
“So that year came up, right, and I texted all of them because I’m very close with them and I said ‘Look, just FYI, I’m about to start, I wanna put the word out there.’ They said ‘OK, we’re gonna go talk to management about it.’ And they did and they got fired.
“I tried to talk to her about it and she wouldn’t speak to me. It was a full shutdown and she writes a song about me… but I’m ready for that BS to be done.”
However, she added a bit of fair warning, “There is that law of cause and effect. You do something and there’s gonna be a reaction.”
With regard to the issue, Taylor didn’t name Katy, but had this to say in a 2014 interview with Rolling Stone: “She basically tried to sabotage an entire arena tour. She tried to hire a bunch of people out from under me. And I’m surprisingly non-confrontational – you would not believe how much I hate conflict. So now I have to avoid her. It’s awkward, and I don’t like it.”
But Katy is ready to put that behind her, and preached love and unity on the radio show: “I love everyone and I think we need to unite more than ever… We need to love each other today.” JB
