American director Oliver Stone, who’s known for his movies “Platoon,” “Wall Street,” “JFK,” “Natural Born Killers” and his political stances, has been signed up to direct “Guantanamo,” a TV series following detainees in the world’s most controversial prison.
Opened after the September 11 attacks on the USA in 2001, this high-security detention facility, built on the US naval base at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, imprisons suspects in the war on terror. “Guantanamo” will focus on the facility’s detainees, as well as those who defend and those who condemn the prison.
More than 10 years after it opened, the center is still operational and currently houses around 40 prisoners.
Several seasons of the show are already planned, with the 70-year-old legendary director set to helm the entire first season. The Weinstein Company is expected to propose the project to several TV networks in the coming days.
As of writing, there’s still no timetable on when production will begin. KI
