Sunshine Cruz speaks up to netizens questioning her daughter’s Tagalog

Sunshine Cruz defended her daughter Angelina from netizens questioning her fluency in the Filipino language.

On Sunday, the actress’ 15-year-old daughter appeared on the Kapamilya show “Gandang Gabi Vice” together with fellow celebrity kids Andre Yllana, Iñigo Pascual and Leila Alcasid.

Soon after, Sunshine was faced with grumblings from Instagram users, complaining about Angelina’s poor Filipino speaking skills and demure personality. As one netizen by the handle @zolmh inquired, “Ask ko lang, Pinoy naman kayo, bakit hindi nagtatagalog ang mga anak mo?

Sunshine responded, “She (Angelina) is exerting effort and learning.”

Hindi pa siya maka-straight kaya nage-effort naman ang bata mag-Tagalog (She cannot speak straight but she is making an effort to speak Tagalog). Let’s give her a chance to improve. She’s only 15 and she’s trying her best,” Sunshine added.

Likewise, Sunshine thanked her daughter’s newfound fans for voicing their support, even expressing delight at how they saw a chemistry between her daughter and Iñigo.

“I’m really happy that you appreciate my princess. In time, she will improve more,” she said.

Angelina is Cruz’s daughter with ex-husband Cesar Montano. Aspiring to be a singer, Angelina released her debut single, a cover of Elvis Presley’s “Can’t Help Falling In Love” last month. Gianna Francesca Catolico/JB
