After giving life to the hulking DC villain Bane in the 2012 film “The Dark Knight Rises,” Tom Hardy is set to play another menacing comic-book figure.
According to The Guardian, the 39-year-old English actor has been cast to play as Eddie Brock a.k.a. “Venom,” Spiderman’s greatest adversary, in a solo movie slated for an October 2018 release.

Hardy was previously slated to play Rick Flagg in last year’s “Suicide Squad,” but dropped out due to scheduling conflicts. He was eventually replaced by Joel Kinnaman.
Prior to Hardy’s selection, the extraterrestrial Symbiote was first portrayed in the big screen by Topher Grace, and voiced in animation by Danny Trejo, Hank Azaria and Dee Bradley Baker.
Sony also revealed that the “Venom” movie will launch a series of spin-off films including a planned team-up between Spiderman allies Black Cat and Silver Sable.
As of this writing, it remains to be confirmed if the famed web slinger (currently played by Tom Holland) will make an appearance in the film. “Venom” will be helmed by “Zombieland” director Ruben Fleischer. Khristian Ibarrola /ra
