READ: Lea Salonga, Lin-Manuel Miranda tweet using Filipino slangs

The Twitter universe was in a frenzy on Tuesday when Lea Salonga and Broadway actor-playwright Lin-Manuel Miranda exchanged conversation using popular Filipino lingo.

It all began when Salonga unearthed a 2014 tweet of Miranda praising her performance with the all-male classical group Il Divo.

“Dude, pare, just tried clicking the link and I see nothing. What video is this of?” Salonga answered him on Tuesday, failing to notice the date of the tweet. “Dude pare” is a slang used by males to call each other.

Later, Miranda surprised Salonga’s fans when he called her “mamshie,” an informal term used to call mothers.

“Good talk Mamshie ingat tsong,” Miranda good-heartedly tweeted. In another tweet, he called Salonga “bes,” a millennial slang for best friend. “Ingat bes! Labyu!” Miranda said.

When Salonga linked the performance Miranda was referring to, he replied: “Yes dood, ang bait mo (you are good).”

Miranda has proven that he has a knack for Filipino phrases and terms. In February last year, Miranda and his crew delighted Filipinos with his “Taglish” version of a song from the hit musical “Hamilton.”

In 2015, Salonga reunited with Miranda as the two theater prodigies sang their version of “A Whole New World.”  Gianna Francesca Catolico /ra
