With “Alien: Covenant” on the verge of release, Ridley Scott lets moviegoers know that a follow-up is already on the way.
Starring Katherine Waterston, Michael Fassbender, Billy Crudup, Demián Bichir and Danny McBride in leading roles, “Alien: Covenant” lands somewhere between Ridley Scott’s 2012 revival “Prometheus” and his 1979 original “Alien” on the franchise timeline.
As both a prequel and an interquel, it bridges the gap between the origin story “Prometheus” and original story “Alien”, taking place in the middle of a twenty year void between the two.
But there’s still space for “Alien: Covenant” to leave viewers with tantilizing questions at its close, and Ridley Scott expects to make the most of the opportunity.
In fact, in a conversation with IGN UK, he encouraged participation in the “Alien: Covenant” theatrical run by elevating its significance: more off-world adventures are on their way, he said.
“We’re writing it now, as we speak,” he promised, “I’ll be filming that within 14 months. If a sequel’s good, then it’s worthwhile. It’s being written right now.”
Following May 4 and May 8 premieres in London and Paris respectively, and a May 9 general release in South Korea, “Alien: Covenant” commences global rollout with May 10 openings in France, Singapore, the Philippines and Indonesia on May 10. Countries like Brazil, Italy, Spain, Poland and the United Kingdom and Ireland are joining during the same week.
The United States, Canada, Netherlands, Australia, Hong Kong and more are included on the week of May 19, with a Chinese debut from June 16 and a Japanese launch on September 15. JB
