When MTV awarded Millie Bobby Brown of “Stranger Things” fame for Best Actor in a Show, the usually lively actress appeared shocked and was in tears, even as she delivered her speech.
The 13-year-old actress was emotional as she thanked people close to her, including her family and fellow cast members. She gave a special mention to “Stranger Things” writers, the Duffer Brothers, for creating a “badass, female, iconic character.”
Brown is the first actor from a series to receive MTV’s gender-neutral award in the TV show category, a move that has been lauded for breaking gender barriers, since both men and women can be recognized for their performances in a single category.

Netflix’s “Stranger Things” is a hit science fiction-horror TV show in the United States, set in the 1980s, where three kids search for a friend who mysteriously disappeared. Along the way, they encounter Brown’s character Eleven, a girl with psychic powers who no longer wants to be a lab experiment.
Eleven only has a limited vocabulary, but Brown’s powerful acting expertly conveys her character’s inner struggle in figuring out her identity and controlling her powers.
Last year, Brown visited Manila during the Asia Pop Comic Convention, where several fans dressed up in her character’s pink dress and shaved head—including grown men.
Other award-giving bodies have recognized Brown’s acting prowess, such as the Screen Actors Guild Awards where she was nominated for “Outstanding Performance by a Female Actor in a Drama Series.”
