It was his stint at The Voice of the Philippines’ 2nd season that launched him into stardom and grand finalist Jem Cubil could not be more thankful for the experience.

Hindi mababayaran ‘yung experience. (The experience is priceless) It’s very memorable, it’s a memory na gusto ko i-cherish (that I want to cherish) for life,” he said during his guesting on Inquirer ShowbizLive on Wednesday with fellow Viva Artists talent Ronnie Liang.

The 22-year-old singer said his life completely changed when he joined the premier singing contest.

“My life went better, nakikilala ‘ko (I became known). In terms of personality development, nag-change ako from that high school kid to this person [I am] right now,” he said.

At the competition, he was best remembered when he slayed his rendition of Kings of Leon’s “Use Somebody.” He became part of #TeamLea.

However easy it may have seemed, the journey wasn’t as smooth for the young singer as he, just like all else, feared also what happens next.

“It was a nerve-wracking experience kasi pagpasok mo pa lang nakatalikod na sila (as you get in, their backs are turned) and you never know what will happen talaga (indeed),” he said.

But above all else, he simply enjoyed the ride and picked up every lesson along the way.

“It is more of wanting to be confident in singing rather than winning,” he said.

Prior to The Voice, he joined Pilipinas Got Talent.—With Trixie Abigail D. Lupangco /ra
