Maine Mendoza supports same-sex marriage

What advocacy does Maine Mendoza support? When we visited the 22-year-old social media sensation and TV-film star during one of her endorsement shoots recently, she answered without batting an eyelash: “Same-sex marriage.” Love is gender-blind, she said.

Up close and in the flesh, AlDub’s feisty other half is no pa-bebe. And she’s in very good company.

In fact, there is a growing number of Hollywood celebrities who have taken great strides in advocating lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) rights.

Without mentioning the obvious, the long and impressive list includes Brad Pitt, Beyoncé, Anne Hathaway, Justin Timberlake, Daniel Radcliffe and—surprise!—even Kanye West.

Proving she has a good head on her pretty shoulders, Maine explained her answer to us: “Lahat ng tao, kahit anong kasarian, may karapatang magmahal kung sino man ang gusto nilang mahalin. (Regardless of gender or preference, everyone has the right to love whoever they want.) Hindi ko ma-gets bakit hindi s’ya (marriage equality) tanggap ng iba. (I don’t understand why some people are against it.) We should be allowed to do the things that make us happy, especially if we aren’t hurting other people.”
