WATCH: Disney airs same-sex kiss in animated show

Disney has continued breaking boundaries and challenging societal norms throughout the years. Its latest subtle gesture is quite a big step towards the acceptance of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community.

In the recent episode of its popular cartoon series “Star vs. the Forces of Evil”, the entertainment giant showed an intimate kiss between two individuals of the same sex, Glamour reported.

In the scene, the show’s protagonist Star, along with her friend Marcos Diaz, were spending quality time together in a concert. At the height of the performance, concertgoers began locking lips—from young to old couples, from straight to gay ones, too.

As Star and Marco went on their separate ways, several more gay couples can also be seen together, exiting the venue.

Although the gay couple were not integral characters of the series, this is the first time Disney has ever featured actual gay relations in their show.

Previous titles like the “Good Luck Charlie” cartoon featured a lesbian at the center of one storyline, while “Gravity Falls” suggested that side characters Deputy Durand and Sheriff Blubs are actually “more than just friends.”

Meanwhile, the same-sex kissing scene is perhaps the studio’s latest salvo to reach out to their LGBT viewers, after previous claims from critics that the company’s Disney princess line-up lacks an LGBT icon.  Khristian Ibarrola/JB
