“Die Beautiful,” starring Paolo Ballesteros, has colonized the hearts of local Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) moviegoers and international critics, yet fans were left clueless on what might have happened when Trisha’s stern father learned where her wake was.

To quench fans’ thirst for the story’s possible climax, director Jun Robles Lana uploaded a 56-second deleted scene of the film on Twitter, which instantly became an online hit. “This scene took a whole day to shoot. But during edit, it was not working for the story. Tough decision,” he captioned the clip.

The scene features Trisha’s father (Joel Torre) and sister (Gladys Reyes) confronting onlookers during Trisha’s wake. Chaperoned by cops, he orders them to remove the coffin, but Trisha’s ever-loyal best friend Barbs (Christian Bables) steps in and screeches at him.

Bables, who retweeted Lana’s post, sympathized with her on-screen character and her conflicts with Trisha’s estranged family. “This breaks my heart even more,” he tweeted. “Feeling ko huling kita ko na kay Trisha (I felt that this was the last time I would see Trisha).”

This was the second cut scene released by the critically acclaimed director. Earlier, in response to fans’ query about Trisha’s rowdy “barkada,” Lana uploaded a deleted scene of Trisha, who was known as Patrick in high school, chatting with several gay classmates.

“Die Beautiful” was screened at the MMFF and won awards for Ballesteros’ and Bables’ outstanding portrayals of transgender beauty queens.  Gianna Francesca Catolico
