“Harmonizers,” or fans of the all-girl group Fifth Harmony, were startled on Monday after finding out that Camila Cabello had departed from the group to pursue a solo career.
Cabello herself was astonished when the group’s Twitter account revealed her exit.
The Cuban-American singer, 19, vented her misgivings on the social networking site with a straightforward statement. “I was shocked to read the statement the Fifth Harmony account posted without my knowing,” she said. “The girls were aware of my feelings through the long, much-needed conversations about the future that we had during [our] tour.”

She also shed light on her departure, elucidating that members Ali Brooke, Normani Kordei, Dinah Jane and Lauren Jauregui were aware of her future plans in the music industry. “Saying that they were just informed through my representatives that I was ‘leaving the group’ is simply not true. Just like the other girls said in their statement about their plans, I had also planned to continue with my own solo endeavors in the new year but I did not intend to end things with Fifth Harmony this way,” she said.
Nevertheless, Cabello added, she wished “Fourth Harmony” nothing but the best. “I am so proud of everything we’ve achieved together as a group and will always be proud of being a part of it,” she said.
Teasing fans with her next steps, Cabello ensured that 2017 would be a groundbreaking era for her as a soloist. “Next year I will be working on my own music and giving you a big chunk of my heart,” she contended.

E! News had cited several signs foretelling Cabello’s branching out from the phenomenal pop group.
During a concert in Missouri earlier this year, Cabello aborted her performance with the group after suffering from an anxiety breakdown. Just recently, she released “Bad Things,” a duet with rapper Machine Gun Kelly, and “I Know What You Did Last Summer” with Shawn Mendes.
Fifth Harmony was formed during X-Factor USA’s second season back in 2012. Its chart-topping hits include “Worth It,” “Bo$$,” “That’s My Girl,” “Write on Me” and “Work from Home.”
Despite losing a member, the quartet will continue to work and create more tracks. It was not known if the quartet will form an altogether new group or change its name. Gianna Francesca Catolico
